Water Gremlin has summited a request for a minor permit to allow the addition of a UV process to their operation. It is important that the community pays attention to what is being approved as this permit will be ‘rolled into:” the Major permit, once that gets underway. The timing of the minor permit is under a strict schedule. The expectation is that this minor permit will be approved by the end of the year, based on the law. The public comment period closes on December 17, 2020 at 4:30 pm.
At the time of writing this, we are putting together our thoughts and doing our research. To find out more on the proposed minor permit – go to this MPCA resource. The notice provides a high level overview. The draft permit is also included. The technical support documents provide good background and help to provide context to the situation and the permit. Again, this is for a MINOR permit – not the major permit that will regulate all operations. Of note, the major permit continues to be delayed. (We were originally told that it would happen in the fall of 2019, then, the end of 2019, then, the first quarter of 2020, then, October of 2020 to now, hopefully, Q1 of 2021.)
To submit comments to the MPCA on this minor permit – here are the requirements, along with the contact info for submissions.
To submit comments or petitions to the MPCA through the mail or email, you must state:
(1) Your interest in the permit application or the draft permit.
(2) The action you wish the MPCA to take, including specific references to the section of the draft permit you believe should be
changed.
(3) The reasons supporting your position, stated with sufficient specificity as to allow the MPCA to investigate the merits of the
position.
